Druid Hills, GA Homes for Sale

Druid Hills (30306, 30307) is a neighborhood in DeKalb County which also sits in the city of Atlanta. This planned community was conceived by Joel Hurt and developed by some of Atlanta’s leading families in the late 19th century, including Coca-Cola founder Asa Candler. Famous urban designer, Frederick Law Olmstead, created the plan for Druid Hills as one of his last projects. The centerpiece of his design was the series of parks along Ponce De Leon Avenue, which creates the atmosphere of a grand boulevard. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Prestigious Emory University moved to Druid Hills in 1914. Its medical school helped attract the national headquarters for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

There are many mansions in Druid Hills from the late 19th and early 20th century, some of which were featured in the film, “Driving Miss Daisy.” The numerous parks and large estate-sized lots create an ambiance of affluence, which is in fact, accurate. Many prestigious churches have located in Druid Hills, especially along Ponce De Leon Avenue. For southern gracious living, this neighborhood is unsurpassed.
