Brookwood Hills, GA Homes for Sale

Brookwood Hills (30309), founded in 1922, was built as a suburban Atlanta neighborhood. It has now become surrounded by an urban atmosphere, while retaining its integrity as a residential area just off bustling Peachtree Road. In the center of this neighborhood is the site of some of the bloodiest fighting in the Civil War. After the Civil War, many leading Atlanta citizens built estates just north of where Interstate 85 crosses Peachtree Street. One of the best known of these was called “Brookwood,” which gave this area its name. Brookwood Hills was created by the Burdett family, which laid out the streets to fit the hilly terrain instead of designing a strict grid. It wasn’t until the mid-1950s that the Atlanta city limits expanded this far north. It is now located in the southern part of Buckhead.

The architecture of the neighborhood reflects the periods of construction. Historic revival styles typical of the 1920s, such as Tudor, Georgian and Colonial were built in the first two phases. The hub of the community is the Brookwood Hills Community Club, which includes a park, a pool, two tennis pavilions, tennis courts and basketball goals. A unique feature of the neighborhood is the Brookwood Train Station, which offers the only Amtrak service in Atlanta. Today the neighborhood is a residential oasis surrounded by urban Atlanta. It’s a treasure to be explored and enjoyed.
